For those of us living in Cape Town, D day is fast approaching. Well done to all of those who have made an effort in trying to save water wherever they can. Welcome to the first recipe of my waterless recipes series. It’s just another way of saving water and enjoying a tasty and delicious treat in the mornings. Or afternoons, whatever you fancy. It’s the Waterless Baked Breakfast Bun put together by SASKO. YUM!
It’s a quick and easy recipe, and can be prepared in the mornings before school/work. If you feel you’re going to forget it, print this page and stick it up on your fridge. That always works for me. You might want to subscribe to my newsletter as well, so that you can be the first to know about the recipes as they go live on the blog. Yes there are more coming, at least 1 per week 🙂
You can make these buns with any fillings of your choice; This recipe is with bacon, egg and cheese but you could swap the bacon for cherry tomatoes.
Waterless Baked Breakfast Bun Ingredients: (Makes 3)
1 packet Sasko Jumbo Sesame White Bread Buns (3 buns per packet)
200g packet Streaky Bacon (or 200g Cherry Tomatoes, halved)
3 Extra-large Eggs
60g Grated Cheese (Gouda/Cheddar Cheese)
Salt and Pepper
Preheat the oven to 180*C
Place the bacon or the cherry tomato halves onto a baking tray (season the cherry tomatoes with salt and pepper and drizzle with olive oil). Bake until the bacon is crisp or the tomatoes have softened (approx. 15 min).
Cut the tops off the buns and scoop out the bread from the centres to create ‘bread bowls’ and place onto a baking tray.
Divide the bacon/tomatoes between the buns to form the bottom layer.
Crack an egg into each and top with equal amounts of cheese.
Season with salt, pepper and a dash of chopped, fresh parsley.
Bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until the buns are golden brown and the eggs are cooked to your liking (place the lids in for the last 5 minutes to crisp up.)
